TERI KLASS

Teri Klass (b. Los Angeles) trained as a graphic artist in hand-lettering and typography before a parallel vocation in education led her to found ArtLAB, an arts-integrated public school premised on full inclusion. That discipline of line, shapes, and form now underwrites a full-time studio practice at BlueRoof, a former South Central Los Angeles church she has reimagined as both sanctuary and site of production.

Rooted in drawing and printmaking, Klass's work holds to the figure while dissolving, at its edges, into abstraction. Across mixed-media surfaces of layered texture and color, she pursues imperfection as method—the misregistered mark, the unresolved passage—refusing to know in advance where a painting will arrive. What results is a sustained meditation on people, place, and the terms of our coexistence.
